ECO10046 SwitchBlade-Elite 2.2 Standard Voltage 55A ESC

Date Released: 2023.01.12

Impact: All Switchblade-Elite Mk2.2 aircraft configured with standard voltage 55A Electronic Speed Controllers (ESC).

INTRODUCTION

Standard voltage 55A ESCs have a non-diagnosable failure mode that renders the ESC inoperable, and may occur during flight.

DESCRIPTION

The failure mode of the standard voltage 55A ESCs presents itself as a motor not operating despite receiving commands to do so from the flight controller. This failure event can occur upon initial arming sequence of the aircraft, as well as during flight. If this failure mode occurs during flight it will lead to an uncommanded and unrecoverable descent.

RESOLUTION

Moving forward all Mk2.2 aircraft will require high voltage H55+ ESCs or will require system updates to the Mk2.3 version. Either of these solutions mitigates the risk.

CUSTOMER IMPACT

Customers will be required to return all mark 2.2 aircraft that utilize the standard voltage 55A ESCs to the manufacturer. The returned aircraft will be retrofit with the high voltage H55+ ESCs, or updated to the Mk2.3 version.
